We may use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server and to administer our Web site. At The Edelman(n) Genealogy Project, this means checking Our Host Server Statistical System to see what types of browsers are accessing the site and which IP services the browsers are being used from.  This gives us a better idea of which features can be used most efficiently and what type browser(s) are being used to access the site.  This gives us technical information for updating the site to the best advantage of most of our visitors.  See Surveys below.

On Occasion, we use an outside ad company to display ads on our site. These ads may contain cookies. While we occasionally use cookies in other parts of our Web site, cookies received with banner ads are collected by the ad company, and we have no access to this information.

Our online survey(s) may ask visitors for contact information (like email address).  Contact information from the surveys is used to get in touch with the visitor when necessary.  Users may opt-out of receiving future mailings; see the choice/opt-out section below.

Researcher Listings

This web site contains a Researcher Listing page which is available to the public.  The Researcher Listing page contains contact information for Edelman Family Researchers, Other Family Researchers and formal Members of the Edelman Genealogy Project. From there you can obtain addresses and send email to project members, or visit their personal home pages.

Information on the Researcher Listing page is added by email request to the WebMaster.  Persons desiring their names and other information for contact be listed on the Researcher Listing page must provide such information by (Email to the WebMaster).  The information received is the only information disseminated.  Typically this includes Name, Email Address, Web Site Address (if any) and short comment on research needs, i.e. Researching Jarrell, Edelman and Derivative Spellings.

Children's Guidelines

We care about children and understand they have special privacy needs. Therefore, we have adopted the following privacy policy regarding children:

1. We will NOT collect, use, or distribute to third parties personally identifiable information without prior verifiable parental consent.

2. We will NOT deliberately give a child access to unmonitored Discussion Forums, Message Boards, Email Accounts, or other services that would give a child the ability to publicly post or otherwise distribute personally identifiable information without prior verifiable parental consent

3. When verifiable parental consent is not obtained, we will only use the online contact information (such as email) to:

   1. Respond directly to a child's request on a one-time basis and we will not use that information to re-contact the child for other purposes.

   2. Request the name or online contact information of a parent for the purpose of obtaining verifiable parental consent or providing parental notification.

   3. Respond more than once directly to a specific request from a child (such as in the case where a child requests genealogical information or newsletter subscription) and will not use such information to re-contact the child for other purposes. We will use our best efforts to provide parental notification, which will include the nature and intended use as well as an opportunity for the parent to prevent the use of the information and participation in the activity.

4. We will NOT entice a child to divulge more information than is needed to participate in any activity, project, or service.

5. We will provide the parent a description of the specific types of  personally identifiable information collected from their child upon request. We will allow the parent to refuse further use or future online collection of personally identifiable information and provide a way for a parent to obtain any personally identifiable information collected from their child.

6. We will provide notice to children in age appropriate terms of what personally identifiable information is to be collected.

7. We will NOT provide any links to Web sites that are unsuitable for children.

8. We will encourage children to get their parent's permission before sharing personal information online.

9. In the event we find we have given information to, or received information from, a child unknowingly, we will, (as soon as we discover we are communicating with a child) follow the preceding guidelines.

Even though it is customary to give a name or nick-name and email address when posting to forums, surveys and message boards, we have designed our site so that you can post information requested to  Online Surveys without giving email address or other identifying information.  We reserve the right to remove any messages or forum notes or other material left by visitors to this site which might conflict with this privacy statement or which is pornographic or lewd in nature.  The Edelman(n) Genealogy Project site is primarily a genealogical research site with occasional information of interest to others included in separate or private sections but which nevertheless will conform to this privacy statement.

Although every attempt has been made to verify and assure the accuracy of the data contained on this site, the owner(s) of the site neither make or imply any guarantee(s) as to the accuracy of the information you will find on the site.

Any Family Genealogy Research Data should be reviewed with a critical eye and the reader should make every effort to acquire copies of original or certified documents (Birth Certificates, Land Records, Wills, etc.) which can be held as validation of the accuracy of the information collected.

As with nearly all sites of this type, inquiry to the original submitter of listed data must be made to acquire permission for use before any data contained herein is published.  On each of our report pages you will find the source of nearly every single line of data including name, date and location providers and their email address if known. 

Any data listed on the site but not annotated is submitted from records held in the Edelman or Edelman Cousin data files.
